Have you ever wondered why some affirmations, dream boards, and lists that specify exactly what you want don’t work?
Here’s a hint: what are you feeling when you voice that affirmation?
What resistance courses through you as you make that list for your perfect job, financial situation, or life partner?
Do you believe what you are writing down?
If you don’t, then tap into what you want to feel and write that down. Don’t over describe the feeling or put images to it. Don’t write down time-lines or expectations. Write only your most desired feelings. Make them a simple bullet list. (ex. ease, joy, laughter, loyalty, trust, sharing, playfulness, healing, pleasure, etc.) Feel each word as you write it down. Read it first thing in the morning. Read it out-loud before you lay down at night. Read the list and feel the words again and again.
Then trust that God, the Universe (whatever your higher power is) will bring it to you in a form far greater than your highest expectations and far beyond what you could have ever conjured or thought up.
In other words, get out of the way.
Back in December I posted this quote on my AmyJalapeño! facebook page:
Life is an echo.
What you send out, comes back.
What you sow, you reap.
What you give, you get.
What you see in others, exists in you.
Remember, life is an echo.
It always gets back to you.
So give goodness.-Zig Ziglar
A follower of the page made a comment that he had given money and it never came back to him. I asked him what he was feeling when he gave the money and if he got that same feeling back. He answered, “hmmm thats why I love you Amy” [exact comment, without correction]
When you embody (act, speak, think) the feeling you want most, the universe can’t help but reveal to you every person, situation, and thing that resonates with that feeling.
Don’t visualize the exact things or people you want, let your imagination run wild with fiction and fantasy to create the feeling. Smile at what your imagination conjures and go with it. Play with it. There’s no need to attach yourself to the exact images you see. They aren’t real and never could be. What’s real is the emotion they summon.
When you force the imagination of what you think you want (time-lines, monetary amounts, specific physical features of a person), you exercise a form of egoic control and it will only get in the way of the beauty and joy the universe has waiting for you.
Instead, attach yourself to the feeling the images create. Fuse to the feeling, not the images.
