You cannot truly listen to another unless you still the internal dialog and diffuse thoughts running off on tangents.
The question is, how much do you really want to listen?
How much do you want to be heard?
Do you have a propensity to control the conversation and be the only person that speaks?
Do you find yourself only thinking about what you want to say next?
Do you believe that you know what the other person is thinking or what they want, even though you have expressed zero interest in what they have to say?
Are you one of those that remains quiet, whether you are petrified to open up or simply uninterested in opening the deep dark world that is your personal Pandora’s box?
Either way some thought or belief or neurotic habit is preventing you from truly connecting with another human being. When you quite the mind and still reaction time, authenticity and immutable connection is possible.
