There are laws of physics I do not understand, things that are unexplainable to any human living. That does not mean we have to slap a story on to those unexplainable parts just so our egos feel safe.
Logically, I know this and I trust the scientific process, but I am also human and I go through ups and downs and I have had moments of acute loneliness, where the story wheel starts spinning and lies start spitting from it until I’m psychologically buried and gasping for love air.
Humans are story machines and when the endocrine system is out of whack or a particular dark thought prevails, sometimes a story is exactly what we need to save us. Why not have one ready and waiting for those inevitable dark moments? Logically, you know it’s not actual, but there’s an aspect of truth to it, and that truth is love. Joy is the story of love.
“Your higher power does not have to be God or the Universe. It can be anything that brings you the deepest joy you have felt or can feel. When your demons are psychologically real, joy is exactly what is needed to save the day. It doesn’t matter how it comes to you, only that it does and that it is there to snatch you from the edge of the abyss.” -Amy Larson, amyjalapeno.com
